(RED1-H)

High-Speed RED1

Ultra-fast flame detection for applications where response time is critical.

Engineered for High-Speed Detection

The RED1-H is a specialized RED1 configuration tuned for applications where extremely fast response is the primary requirement. It achieves a 25-millisecond response to a 1-inch butane flame and for 1 sq. ft. pan fires.

This configuration is evaluated on a case-by-case basis and is typically selected when rapid flame growth is expected, escalation timelines are extremely short, or process interruption must occur within milliseconds of ignition.

Key Features

  • 25 ms Response Time: When High Speed mode is enabled, can detect 1-inch butane and 1 sq. ft. heptane pan fires in 25 ms.

  • Multi-Spectrum Sensing: UV (185–260 nm), IR (0.715–3.5 µm), and Visible (480–560 nm) sensors.

  • 120° Conical FOV: Wide field of view reduces the number of units needed per coverage zone.

  • NEMA 4X Explosion-Proof Housing: Same rugged enclosure as the full RED1 family. Copper-free cast aluminum.

Confirm RED1-H Alignment Before Specification

The RED1-H is optimized for speed-focused applications and does not currently carry FM approval. Sierra recommends validating configuration, approval requirements, and system alignment prior to submittals.

The Engineering Behind the RED1-H

The RED1-H uses the same multi-spectrum sensor array and explosion-proof housing as the rest of the RED1 family. The difference is in how the detection logic is tuned—prioritizing response speed for environments where milliseconds materially impact outcome.

Where the standard RED1 platform achieves a 2.75-second average response to a 1 sq. ft. Heptane fire at 80 feet, the RED1-H is configured for sub-second detection of small, fast-growing flames.

This makes it suitable for high-energy process stages, catalytic environments, and other scenarios where flame escalation is near-instantaneous.
The RED1-H is not a general-purpose upgrade. It is a targeted configuration for applications that require it.

What Sets Sierra Apart

Sierra Safety Technology has manufactured flame detection equipment for nearly 40 years with zero product recalls and zero failures resulting in loss of life. RED1 units installed over 30 years ago remain in active service today.

The RED1-H brings that same engineering foundation to the most demanding speed-critical applications without compromising the rugged construction Sierra is known for.

Frequently Asked Questions

The RED1-H detects a 1-inch butane flame in 25 milliseconds and a 1 sq. ft. pan fire in approximately 3 seconds.

The RED1-H does not currently carry FM approval. Contact Sierra to discuss current approval status and whether it aligns with your project requirements.

The detection logic is tuned for maximum speed rather than general-purpose operation. The sensor array, housing, and field of view are the same across the RED1 platform.

This is on a case-by-case basis. Sierra recommends consulting with our engineering team before specifying.
